😈Penumbra Mystica😈

I’ve started a new graphic novel! This is a stand-alone story featuring a brand new cast of characters. While I work on Magikats! The Stranger with a Secret (Book 3)’s story, I will be bringing Penumbra Mystica to life. This graphic novel is more manga inspired and I will be working in an anime style, with a limited color palette inspired by the stories I grew up reading.

Penumbra Mystica is a psychological horror, romance story. Elise Park is having problems with her on and off again boyfriend, Vincent, while also being haunted by what she considers a demon, Eerie. On the day of the Solar Eclipse, she performs a love spell to reunite with him. Instead, she gets sucked into a shadow dimension where she must face her shadow self, Eerie. Eerie is a part of Elise and represents everything she suppresses inside. Eerie is finally relieved to have finally gotten Elise’s attention! They must work together to face Elise’s inner demons together. In order to tame her inner demons, Elise must come to terms with aspects of herself, her relationship and a budding crush that she has refused to look at. This is their only chance to escape this shadow realm and return to the real world. Will they make it out alive?

🌛The Rebirth of Creativity🌜

Often, when we are creating, we can find ourselves trapped in cycles of production, especially in a society which conditions us to be productive to find our worth. When we are constantly in action mode, we lose out on moments of revelation and thus rebirth. When we are always creating something, we don’t make space to receive insights or inspiration during the creative process. This is why rest is absolutely necessary for all humans - but especially for creatives. We thrive on reflection to fuel our inspiration. We need space to recharge our creative battery. Whoever we are as a human and whatever insights we carry will be channeled into our creations, so we have to make space for these things to be born.

If you find yourself running on empty or struggling with some sort of art-block, it’s time to make a drastic change in your human life. Shake things up in your habits so you can stabilize your energy. Your well-being is of the utmost importance and your creativity can wait for you until you are balanced. This is the time to tear down the structures and cycles we have been trapped in and throw out what is no longer working. Maybe our old way of life worked for a while, but while we are growing, we can outgrow these systems. So it’s time to release them with grace. When we feel stuck in creativity is when we require liberation the most.

The only constant in life is change, so we must accept the nature of change and even challenge ourselves to embrace it. Experiment in your art. Try a different style. Tell a different story. Your creative muscle is one of your strongest, so get creative and try something new. Don’t admit defeat and wallow. Feel your feelings, process them and move through them. Try again along with the wisdom of your experience and embody a new perspective. This is how we recover more quickly during this up and down process of creativity and growth. We do this by recognizing this is a chance for a new beginning in our art, but we must be brave, face ourselves, and take that scary leap forward.

Sometimes we need to be brutally honest with ourselves and confront a situation or habit in our own life or creative process that is holding us back. It’s time to face our inner demons by acknowledging the processes we are addicted to or the feelings of doubt, fear and lack that keep playing in our mind that weigh us down. By facing and naming these issues, we regain a sense of control in our situations. and can free ourselves. This is how we begin to move forward and break free of the chains that bind in our minds. There is always a way forward, sometimes we just haven’t seen it quite yet. This is how we begin to heal ourselves as well.

The cycle of creation is birth, life, death, and rebirth. We are in this cycle of energy as we enter different eras within our own art. This is how we grow and evolve by embracing the change and the nature of creativity. We must embrace our creativity and our own transformation. This is not the time to fear it or run from it. We must lean into it and initiate it to liberate ourselves.

We must learn to let go our the old habits, cycles, processes that we’ve outgrown as artists. By clearing it away, we can make way for new growth, insights, and inspirations. By getting rid of the old, we can tell something new. And this isn’t to say get rid of all of your previous creations, only to not be bound by the creative processes and way of doing things that may have been your ‘style’ but are only holding you back now. Sometimes it’s time to change our ways especially when we feel lost, confused and stuck. Build upon your creativity. Transform it. Try a new approach. Embrace a different point of view. Experiment with your creativity. Turn it to ash and let the phoenix rise so your art can be born anew.
